Overview
In early March, Matthew Frisbee and two other representatives of the International Trademark Association met with Trademark Commissioner David Gooder and several other high-ranking officials of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to discuss concerns over the USPTO’s new requirement that all trademark applications and registrations must include an e-mail address for the trademark owner. The meeting was prompted by a concern that the owner e-mail addresses would be visible to the public on part of the USPTO’s online database, which would lead to fraudulent solicitations. Following a productive meeting, the USPTO announced in late April that the owner e-mail addresses will be masked in the online database, much to the relief of the trademark community.
