Jia Li, Ph.D.

Scientific Advisor and Patent Agent

Dr. Jia Li is a scientific advisor with Leason Ellis and a senior patent agent with over a decade of experience in strategic patent procurement in the U.S. and worldwide. She has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a diverse range of technical fields including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, immunology, molecular biology, medical devices, chemistry, nanotechnology, and material science. Her technological expertise ranges from complex pharmaceutical formulation technologies to the application of CRISPR-CAS in T cell mediated immunotherapies. Jia also has extensive experience with Chinese and European patent issues. She works closely with inventors to identify patentable features and to develop and implement IP strategies. Additionally, Jia conducts prior art and freedom-to-operate searches. She has experience assisting attorneys in drafting patentability, patent validity, and enforceability opinions, as well as providing litigation support and assisting in due diligence research.

Jia graduated from Wuhan University in China with a B.S. in biochemistry. She obtained her Ph.D. in pharmacology at Yale University. Her research at Yale focused on the regulation of the DNA damage checkpoint pathway. She also conducted a postdoctoral fellowship at The Rockefeller University studying transcriptional regulation. Jia has published in a number of journals including the Journal of Clinical Investigation, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, and Cell Cycle.
