Edward Ellis co-founded Leason Ellis and chairs the Patent Practice Group at the firm. He specializes in domestic and foreign patent procurement, evaluation and related client counseling, with particular emphasis in the mechanical, electro-mechanical, chemical processes arts, as well as in the field of design patents. Ed has considerable experience with medical devices and processes, eye care products, optical equipment, sports equipment and games, consumer goods, textiles and related processes, as well as a wide array of automotive devices and systems. He works with a diverse set of clients ranging from Fortune 100 corporations to individual inventors.

Who’s Who Legal and IAM Patent 1000 have recognized Ed for his combination of technical excellence and high-level strategic thinking. He has also authored articles on intellectual property issues and trends. As the son of a prolific inventor, Ed was introduced to patents at an early age and appreciates how important it is to protect inventors’ hard work and advance their dreams. He prides himself on his ability to cultivate a detailed patent portfolio and IP strategy that furthers the achievements of the client’s business goals. He is able to quickly grasp complex engineering concepts and present them in a compelling, intelligent, and detailed patent application that reads seamlessly. Ed holds a B.S. from Bates College and a J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law.
