Roland Rivera-Santiago is an associate in the Patent Practice Group.  He is a registered U.S. patent attorney, and his practice focuses on creating value for clients through the development of intellectual property rights.  He is experienced in both domestic and foreign patent prosecution, as well as in due diligence, freedom to operate, and other strategic counseling matters.  He has counseled clients ranging from biotech startups to universities and large pharmaceutical companies, with a particular focus on pharmaceutical and biotechnology patents.  In addition to his experience in patent prosecution, Roland also has some experience in trademark, copyright, and intellectual property litigation matters.

As a former research scientist, Roland’s intellectual curiosity and proclivity for learning about new technologies made his transition from academia to patent law a natural one.  Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Roland received his J.D. from Fordham University, his Ph.D. from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and dual B.S. degrees from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.  Prior to law school, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia.  During law school, Roland interned in the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York for the Honorable Analisa Torres, U.S.D.J.
