Joel Felber

Joel Felber is a patent attorney and partner at Leason Ellis. His intellectual property practice has an emphasis on computing hardware and software technologies. He counsels clients in a variety of technical areas, including digital health engagement and risk platforms, high-performance distributed intelligence systems, imaging systems, social marketing systems, collaborative media creation and wireless systems, systems for providing cloud-based medical information to primary care and specialty care medical practices, spot market freight data management, interactive communications platforms, and encryption and security systems. In addition to intellectual property procurement, Joel negotiates and drafts license and purchase agreements, and software development and consulting contracts. He also conducts infringement and validity analyses and due diligence.

Joel’s intellectual property law practice is a natural extension of his career. Prior to practicing law, Joel worked as a programmer analyst at the Library Systems Office at Yale University and as a software engineer and programmer. Joel has developed mission critical applications for the Emergency Department at Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Department of Virology at the West Haven Connecticut Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Department of Care Management at the Hospital of Saint Raphael, and the New Haven Sponsor Hospital Program. Joel was also an officer at Geminga Medical, Inc., a medical software company, where he developed and brought to market a software application that calculated impairment of the upper extremity of the human body. Joel obtained his B.A. from Hartwick College and his J.D. from Western New England College School of Law.
