Jarryd R. Werts

Jarryd Werts is an associate at Leason Ellis, where he focuses on patent prosecution and counseling.  As a registered patent attorney, Jarryd has drafted, prosecuted, and procured patents in numerous technology areas, specializing in the biological, chemical, biotechnology, and medical device fields.  He relies on his previous experience as a medical writer, where he researched efficacy and safety of new drug therapies of various disease states, and created abstracts, posters, and presentations for medical personnel and pharmaceutical companies.  Jarryd also has experience in performing patentability, validity, freedom-to-operate, and due diligence investigations.  He provides counsel to clients of all sizes, including large companies, universities, and individual inventors.

Jarryd holds a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Duke University and received his J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.  Jarryd passes on his legal knowledge to up-and-coming attorneys through mentoring, and he currently serves as a writer and editor for The Newtonian, Leason Ellis’ quarterly online publication While in law school, Jarryd was an articles editor for the Cardozo Public Law, Policy, and Ethics Journal, and his article, Ringing the Bell on Concussions: The Rise of Head Injuries and Cognitive Decline in Football Players, and the NFL’s Obligation to Improve Safety Measures, 11 Cardozo Pub. L. Pol’y & Ethics J. 173 (Fall 2012), was published in his third year.
