David Leason to Speak on Design Patent Issues

David Leason will be speaking on a panel titled "Design Patents After Egyptian Goddess" presented by the Patent Law Committee of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. The discussion will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 pm at Thomson CompuMark/Thomson Reuters at 530 Fifth Avenue, 7th Floor, in Manhattan. The panel will focus on the Federal Circuit's seminal decision in Egyptian Goddess, Inc. v. Swisa, Inc. and its effect on the field of design patents, including a review of the issues leading up to the decision in Egyptian Goddess, the significance of that decision on design patent law and practice, a review of the subsequent decisions applying the holding in Egyptian Goddess, and practical considerations in the preparation and enforcement of design patents taking into account the current state of design patent law.
