PROFESSIONAL PROFILE:
William Thornewell has
experience handling a wide range of intellectual property issues involving
patents, trademarks, and unfair competition claims. Mr. Thornewell has
assisted clients in many industries including medical technology, consumer
products, and industrial machinery and manufacturing.
Mr. Thornewell assists clients in protecting their intellectual property
at all phases, from inception to enforcement. He has helped clients
identify and refine new ideas in order to obtain protection. He has
experience providing opinions on patentability, freedom-to-operate,
infringement, and validity issues so that clients can make informed
decisions on intellectual property matters. Mr. Thornewell also handles
the enforcement of intellectual property rights. He has experience with
litigation both to enforce rights and to defend clients from claims
of infringement involving utility and design patents, trademarks and
trade dress, and unfair competition claims.
Mr. Thornewell received his J.D. from Fordham Law School, cum laude,
and was awarded the Thomas F. Reddy, Jr. Prize for excellence in intellectual
property law. He has published articles addressing patent and trademark
issues. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, from Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute, graduating magna cum laude. He also has prior experience
working in the defense industry supporting engineering projects involving
sophisticated electronics packages and complex mechanical systems for
aerospace and sub-sea applications.
